program Overview - A day in the life
At Athena, we operate in 4 modes: Activation Mode, Learning Mode, Skill Building Mode, and Flex Mode. One feature that sets us apart is our Flex Friday Program which is largely based on student and family feedback and input. Athena offers an after school option for students that desire to hang out a bit longer or for families that need a little more grace time in the afternoon to get to pick-up, or both! Tutoring is also available during the after school program window. Lastly, Athena offers fun and engaging Intercession Camps (similar to summer camps) between terms.
Activation Mode - Every morning, students get organized and set goals for the day. Students may engage in a writing prompt or a share-out related to their personal goals or interests.
Learning Mode - Following, students then dive into their core academics and progress at their own pace. They may be working online or perhaps they chose a book-based curriculum. Every student receives personalized guidance and coaching daily.
Skill Building Mode - After lunch, students begin the enrichment program, which includes two signature programs. Voces is a Spanish Language and Culture Program, and Athena's Council is a Life and Leadership Skills Program.
Flex Mode- To wrap up the day, every student has the option to begin or advance a passion project, work on an independent study, or use this time to read!
Flex Fridays Program - On a rotating schedule, students use Flex Friday to advance their core academics, participate in community service events, or attend educational and fun excursions and experiences in the Austin and surrounding areas.
After School Program - The After School Program runs from 3:30-5pm, Monday through Thursday and includes unstructured but supervised time to play board games, video games, read, or work on personal passion projects. The After School Program is available to Athena and non-Athena students.
Tutoring - Tutoring is available to Athena and non-Athena students after school from 3:30-5pm by appointment only.
